a time to search and a time to give up
Easter is an important holy day. We attended church, where my wife sang in the choir (beautifully, I might add). We celebrated the fact that after Jesus' execution, he didn't stay dead. We spent the afternoon playing games as a family, and then enjoyed some delicious t-bone steaks, lovingly cooked to perfection by my singing wife.
Some people made the bizarre choice to spend Easter standing outside of a hospice in Florida, protesting the imminent starvation death of Terri Schiavo, while using their own children as political pawns. The Schindler family appears to be exhausted, and Terri's brother Bobby has asked them to go home. Some of them have respected the family's wishes. Others, eager to get some good face time on the news, persist in their circus protest.
Chapter 3 of Ecclesiastes says there is a time for everything:
"a time to search and a time to give up"
I believe the time for Terri is through. The courts have overwhelmingly decided that she needs to die. She has spent 11 days without food now, and to reattach the feeding tube at this point would be a cruel trick. It's time to move on, and let the family begin grieving in peace.
